The challenge
Kofu is not just a coffee shop. It is a space built around specialty coffee, seasonal food, local products and a relaxed atmosphere where people can meet, share and enjoy.
The website needed to communicate that feeling clearly.
The main challenge was to design a digital experience that felt as warm and carefully crafted as the physical brand, while still being practical for users who simply wanted to check the menu, find a location or understand what Kofu offers.
The site had to balance two needs:
- communicate the personality and values of the brand,
- and make key information easy to access: menus, locations, opening hours, contact details and takeaway options.
My role
I was responsible for the web design of the project, working on the visual structure and overall user experience of the website.
My work included:
- defining the page structure,
- designing the visual interface,
- creating a warm and lifestyle-driven digital direction,
- organizing content around the brand experience,
- making practical information easy to find,
- adapting the design to different sections such as menu, takeaway, gallery and contact.
Approach
Translating the physical experience into a digital one
The design direction was built around the feeling of visiting Kofu: warm, relaxed, visual and carefully curated.
Instead of creating a purely informational restaurant website, the goal was to build a digital space that reflected the personality of the brand. Images, spacing, typography and content hierarchy were used to create a more immersive experience and make the website feel closer to the atmosphere of the cafés.
Balancing emotion and usability
For a hospitality brand, the website needs to create desire, but it also needs to be useful.
The structure was designed so users could quickly access the most important actions: view the menu, check takeaway options, find the nearest location or contact the brand.
At the same time, the visual system supported the storytelling around coffee, food, seasonal ingredients and community.
Designing around content and locations
Kofu has several locations, each with its own practical information. The website needed to make those details clear without making the experience feel too rigid or overloaded.
The design organizes the information in a way that feels natural: first introducing the brand, then showing the food and coffee experience, and finally guiding users towards menus, locations, opening hours and contact details.
Outcome
The result was a visual and functional website for a growing hospitality brand with locations in Castellón, Valencia and Benicàssim.
The design gives Kofu a stronger digital presence and helps communicate the brand beyond its physical spaces. It supports both discovery and practical use: users can understand the concept, explore the menu, view the atmosphere through the gallery and find the information they need before visiting.
Reflection
This project was a good opportunity to work on a website where visual design, brand atmosphere and usability had to work together.
Kofu already had a strong personality as a physical space. The challenge was to bring that same feeling into the website while keeping the experience clear, useful and easy to navigate.
